Android’s biggest update so far (Android 5.0 Lollipop) brings the beautiful new “material design” along with tons of new features to mobile devices and beyond. Besides the fluid new look, Lollipop also has lock screen notifications, better performance, notification panels, multi-user device sharing and much more. If that sounds exciting to you and you want to lear more about it, head over to the official page: http://www.android.com/versions/lollipop-5-0/
Fragmentation will still occur because OEMs and carriers (not Google) have no monetary benefit to get the upgrades to customers which is the reason why getting the latest Nexus device ensures not only the latest Android but also security and bug fixes. Here’s a list of the devices getting Lollipop:
Nexus4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10: rolling out now
Moto X (Gen2), Moto G: rolling out now
Moto G 4G, Moto E
HTC One (M7) and HTC One (M8): by February
Nvidia’s Shield Tablet: November 18
LG G3: November/December
Asus ZenFone and Padfone S: 2015
Samsung S3/S4/S5, Galaxy Note 3/4: January 2015
Note: dates are not final and will be changed by the manufacturers
If you don’t have a Nexus device you can get a taste of “material design” through many of the Google apps that have been updated.
